 Description  : We are looking for a PLC Automation Controls Software Supervisor to delegate, manage, and supervise the design and implementation of machine control software and programs for automation system projects. The candidate will also ensure that the work is completed on time and achieves a high level on quality.

Note: A Degree or Diploma in Electrical Engineering is required. APEO registration is preferred.

Role and Responsibilities:
Analysis of motion control and vision systems, RFID, scanners, PLC interfacing with SQL database using OPC. This includes mapping I/O, creating tags, writing logic from scratch and implementing.

Oversee, design and implement machine control software and programs for automation system projects to meet customer requirements including PLC, HMI, analog/measurement systems and signature.

Integrate various types of machine equipment and controls depending on project scope and/or customer requirements.

Calibrate analog devices.

Implement and configure systems such as industrial/communication networks, remote fieldbus I/O bus systems (EIP, Devicenet), instrumentation and measurement systems

Verify data system operation.

Develop and verify HMI operation.

Discuss solutions with electrical, mechanical designers and assemblers.

Answer questions from electrical assemblers.

Test, debug and commission automation systems.

Run parts to verify process and quality.

Complete equipment acceptance list.

Liaise with the Project Managers regarding project requirements and work plans and the expectations and commitments of individual specialties.

Liaise with the Mechanical, Electrical and Pneumatic/Fluid Power Designers to understand requirements and establish good working relationships and maintain this contact during the course of the project.

Review time estimates and cost projects pertaining to the electrical design scope.

Liaise with suppliers to understand application of their products and monitor technological trends.

Monitor all project work in accordance with plan, as necessary.

Ensure that all standards are observed or established, with regards to safety, quality, reliability and durability of systems developed within the program engineering department.

Motivate and encourage team members in the department.

Participate in regular project design progress meetings with Project Team Members and Customer Representatives.

Keep Engineering Manager abreast and inform Project Manager periodically of departmental progress on active projects.

Liaise with Service, Mechanical, and Electrical Assembly Managers and staff regarding project requirements and work plans and the expectations and commitments of individual specialties.

Ensure that time spent on projects is properly captured and recorded using the recording system.

Carry out work in accordance with work standards and procedures in a timely manner, satisfying commitments and planned project milestones.

Strive for continued improvement in quality and efficiency of departmental work.

Adhere to all ISO procedures pertaining to the job responsibilities.

Organize documentation, including quotes, drawing registers, correspondence, requisitions, drawings, schedules, etc. relating to electrical design aspects of projects.


Minimum 3 years supervisory experience.

Supervising and directing the activities at least 5 Senior Software Developers and PLC, Robot and PC programmers.

Formally review the performance of employee each quarter.

Recognize, report, and request training needs to the Engineering Manager.

Required Skills and Expertise:
Sound working knowledge of Engineering Practices and Techniques.

Thorough working knowledge of the automation assembly/testing/manufacturing process, methods, materials, machines and tools of the industry.

Thorough working knowledge of pneumatics and hydraulics.

5-10 years of strong PLC Programming experience (Omron CJ1/CJ2 (CX-One), AB (RSLogix 500/5000)) and its associated controls, hardware modules and software programs.

HMI Design/Programming (Omron and Allen Bradley).

Servo Motion Programming (Rexroth, AB, Omron, Tox).

Familiar with Vison Systems (Keyence, Cognex).

PLC troubleshooting and debugging experience.

Experience with Data Tracking using Barcode Scanners or RFID.

Thorough knowledge of the use of electrical devices including: proximity switches, load cells, and LVDTs

Thorough knowledge of the project management (Microsoft Project) process and budgets.

Knowledge of applicable provincial or federal laws, codes, regulations and their requirements.


Ensure self-presentation and expression, demeanor, and dress is always top caliber when meeting or interfacing with customers, customers’ representatives, vendors and suppliers, and fellow employees.

Ensure all business activities are performed with the highest ethical standards and in compliance with policies and procedures.

Ensure that all safety policies related to attire or conduct on our or the customer’s premises are strictly followed.
