Samesun Hostels operates six hostels, from large cities such as Los Angeles, Vancouver, and Toronto. We deliver safe, clean, and friendly accommodation to our guests. At this time, we are currently searching for a permanent Housekeeping Manager for one of our locations in Toronto, Ontario – Samesun Hostel (“the Facility”).
Under the direction of the General Manager, the Housekeeping Manager is responsible and accountable for managing an effective housekeeping department, with a primary focus on ensuring the delivery of quality service for the facility, guests, and staff. The Housekeeping Manager is also responsible for performing the housekeeping and laundry duties, as part of their daily job routine.
The job responsibilities and duties are as follows:
- Manage the operations of the housekeeping department;
- Plan and co-ordinate the activities of housekeeping staff and crew;
- Conduct inspections to ensure that departmental standards and health and safety regulations are being met;
- Select and purchase equipment and supplies, and maintain inventory;
- Arrange for maintenance and repair of equipment and machinery;
- Participation in the selection, evaluation, promotion, and termination of employees within the department;
- Formation and upkeep of the department’s policies and procedures, goals, objectives, performance appraisals, and more;
- Participation in the basic hands-on housekeeping and light maintenance duties associated with the Facility’s operation;
- Must have effective English skills, both written and verbal.
Qualifications and skills are as follows:
- 1 to 2 years of work experience in the hospitality and customer service industry, including experience in hands-on housekeeping, maintenance, and/or laundry experience;
- 1 to 2 years of supervisory, managerial and/or leadership experience;
- Excellent knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act;
- General knowledge of the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (“WHMIS”); and
- Background in mathematics and record-keeping is highly recommended.

This is a full-time, permanent position, with a fixed salary of $22.00/hour. The candidate must be available for emergency coverages on other shifts, including holidays and weekends, as per the needs of the Facility.
