Job Summary:
North Star has a vacancy for a Concrete Finisher with experience in concrete finishing, patching grinding work; sidewalks, walkways and curbs, slabs, and specialty projects in municipal, commercial and residential construction. In addition, the Concrete Finisher will smooth and finish concrete /shotcrete mixes, filling hollows and removing high spots to reach the desired finish quality.
Duties and responsibilities may include some or all of the following:
• Cast in place concrete finishing of residential and commercial projects;
• Custom forming of walls, slabs and curbs;
• Decorative and stamped concrete applications
• Concrete cutting and coring;
• Excavation and demolition;
• Repair, resurface and replace worn or damaged sections of concrete structures;
• Cut out damaged areas, drill holes for reinforcing rods, and position reinforcing rods to repair concrete, using power saw and drill;
• Polish surface, using polishing or surfacing machine;
• Spread roofing paper on surface of foundation, and spread concrete onto roofing paper with trowel to form terrazzo base;
• Inspect completed work to ensure proper installation;
• Mix cement, sand, and water to produce concrete, grout, or slurry, using hoe, trowel, tamper, scraper, or concrete-mixing machine;
• Apply hardening and sealing compounds to cure surface of concrete, and waterproof or restore surface;
• Mold expansion joints and edges, using edging tools, jointers, and straightedge;
• Produce rough concrete surface, using broom;
• Set the forms that hold concrete to the desired pitch and depth, and align them;
• Spread, level, and smooth concrete, using rake, shovel, hand or power trowel, hand or power screed, and float; and
• Smooth concrete top surface of freshly poured concrete of floors, walls, ceiling or sidewalk according to grade and depth specification.
Qualifications:
• Minimum 2 years' experience in concrete finishing; finishing; patching and grinding work;
• Experience in concrete construction;
• Valid G Class Driver’s License (preferred);
• Ability to lift, carry, or shovel objects weighing up to 50 pounds;
• Must be able to work long hours outside in all weather conditions, including seasonally hot or cold temperatures and inclement weather;
• Ability to multi task and work in a fast-paced environment;
• Support and takes direction / instructions from foreman / supervisor and carry out on site tasks
• Must be hardworking, punctual, and reliable;
• Ensure safety is a top priority and adheres to and follow all rules and regulations
• Good attitude and willingness to follow directions;
• Ability to work individually as well as part of a team; and
• Ability to perform physical labour requiring continual and repetitive use of large motor skills to stand, walk, sit, bend, stoop, crawl, crouch, shovel, push, pull, twist, turn, stretch, and reach.
