Work Conditions and Physical Capabilities
Large workload, bending, crouching, kneeling, tight deadlines, physically demanding, combination of sitting, standing, walking, handling heavy loads and overtime required. Depending on the projects, travelling in and out on a rotational basis will be required.
Duties:
• Read blueprints, drawings and sketches to ascertain specifications and calculate requirements
• Prepare design according to building codes, using measuring tools
• Measure, cut, design, assemble and join materials made of wood, wood substitutes, lightweight steel and other materials
• Build foundations, basement, install floor beams and erect walls and roof systems
• Fit and install windows, doors, stairs, etc.
• Maintain, repair and renovate residential and commercial wooden structures
• May also prepare quotations and provide material estimate to clients.
• Schedule and co-ordinate work on sites
• Survey building locations and levels
• May provide instructions to trainee and supervise other workers
