Education: Secondary (high) school graduation certificate. Work site environment: Wet/damp. Noisy. Work setting: Various locations. Industrial. Residential. Tasks: Connect piping systems to water mains, supply tanks, pumps, compressors and control equipment. Install clamps, brackets and hangers to support piping system and sprinkler and fire protection equipment, using hand and power tools. Test system for leaks using air or liquid pressure equipment. Clean and maintain pipe units and fittings and flush system. Install supports, valves, piping and control systems. Measure, cut, thread and bend pipes to required shape and size. Select type and size of pipe required. Test system for leaks using testing equipment. Estimate costs and materials. Read and interpret blueprints, maps, drawings and specifications. Supervision: 3-4 people. Transportation/travel information: Valid driver's licence. Work conditions and physical capabilities: Handling heavy loads. Physically demanding. Attention to detail. Standing for extended periods. Bending, crouching, kneeling. Own tools/equipment: Safety equipment/gear. Steel-toed safety boots. Safety glasses/goggles. Personal suitability: Accurate. Judgement.
