JOB DESCRIPTION

Holy Trinity Elementary School in North Vancouver needs a Faithful, Dedicated, Fun, Educational Aide to support a variety of our students. The Special Education Aide will support and care for the development needs of students with a variety of learning challenges in grades K to 7. These may include: ASD, Down Syndrome, Language based learning disorders, and other learning and behavioral challenges. The S.E.A. needs to take initiative and be able to work closely with classroom teachers, other S.E.A.’s, Learning Resource teachers and school based team members. The S.E.A. also should be interested in having some fun with fellow staff members, and kids, and recognize the value of laughter! We work as a team and take time for fun as a team too! This one-year contract has the potential to become a continuing contract.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, ABILITIES AND SKILLS: Knowledge of various methods and practices related to supporting children with Special Needs, and varying learning styles is important. Understanding and knowledge of behaviour theories, or behaviour intervention strategies, is an asset. The ability to implement student Individual Educational Plans (IEP), Individual Care Plan, and other programs as set out by the school based team is a critical aspect of the S.E.A.’s role.

Completion of the Special Education Teaching Assistant certification, or equivalent experience in working with children to support learning goals preferred. Prior experience working in a school environment, or other work supporting children with learning challenges is beneficial. Individuals working towards special education certification but not yet completed are encouraged to apply, if their school schedule would allow for weekday working hours.
