Job Profile

P&C is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Engineering Designer Technologist to join our dynamic drawing office team. As a Senior Engineering Designer Technologist, you will play a pivotal role in producing piping and mechanical drawings for backfill, slurry transport systems, and specialized equipment within the mining and resources industry. You will lead the design and development of paste plants, pump stations, pipelines, and specialized equipment, ensuring deliverables are technically correct, professional, and timely.

Key Responsibilities
Your duties will include, but are not limited to:
• Utilizing 3D drawing software to prepare 3D models of full-scale process plants at a detailed design level. This will include development of detailed pipe routing, isometrics, mechanical layout of equipment, and coordination with discipline engineering sub-consultants/partners.
• Mentoring of junior staff to develop skills and enable growth.
• Completing senior peer review of drafting deliverables, ensuring that drawings are technically compliant and meet our high standards.
• Developing and drawing up Process Flow Diagrams (PFD’s), Piping and Instrumentation Drawings (P&ID’s) and Hydraulic Grade Lines (HGL’s) from information provided by engineers.
• Developing general arrangement and layout drawings including specialized piping systems, pump stations, concrete layouts, structural steel work, and related specialized equipment from PFD’s and P&ID’s.
• Assist engineers with development and the design of specialized equipment, and then produce detailed drawings for production and / or fabrication.
• Prepare material take-offs and develop bills of quantities, equipment lists, cost estimates, and specifications as required for project deliverables.
• Checking, reviewing, and marking-up drawings, ensuring compliance and adherence to standards.
• Travel to sites to take measurements and draw/detail equipment and systems.
• Travel to sites to assess the status of construction work and ensure the construction is proceeding in general conformance with the contract documents.

Qualifications, Experience & Skills
P&C requires an experienced career drafting technologist who has built up knowledge and wisdom through immersion and exposure to independently produce drawings of consistently high quality. You must be able to contribute to the overall capacity of the design office rather than simply produce drawings as instructed. Your extensive background in drafting and ability to produce drawing deliverables that are technically correct and professional will be relied on heavily to ensure that drawings and / or models are delivered accurately, correctly, and on time. As such, you must have the following minimum qualifications:

• Minimum of 5 years’ experience on Autodesk Plant 3D.
• Formal drafting training to a national diploma or equivalent level.
• At least 10 years of relevant and appropriate experience in heavy engineering, process plant and/or mining environments - with demonstrable drawing deliverables. At least some of this experience must include layout and detailing of process plants, pump stations and/or pipelines.
• Minimum of 10 years’ experience on AutoCAD (2D & 3D).
• An elevated level of computer literacy with good skills in MS Excel, MS Office, and other applications.
• Able to develop expertise in specialized drafting-related software.
• Able to problem solve independently through research and information gathering via library, internet, equipment catalogues and supplier contacts.
• A valid driver’s license, as well as willing and able to travel internationally.
• A calculated approach to ensure all deliverables are maintained and organized effectively.
• Possess leadership qualities, allowing for potential development into the leadership / manager role in the drawing office in time.
• Ability to work well in an office, industrial and mining site environment.
• Able to work hard, act professionally and make decisions independently.
• Diligence and a commitment to technical learning.
• Able to communicate well with individuals and willing to train.
• Willing to adapt to client specific drafting standards and constant process layout changes.

The ideal candidate will also contribute greatly with the following experience:
• General site measurement of equipment and systems.
• Workshop, manufacturing, or fabrication, as well as experience in specifications, costing and estimating.
• Solid modelling with Autodesk Inventor and Plant 3D.
• Autodesk Civil 3D.
• Horizontal pipeline long sections.
