Reporting to the Director of Engineering, the Reliability Specialist is responsible for championing new programs such as Reliability Centered Maintenance, Predictive Maintenance, technical projects, and process reliability improvements. This role is also responsible for aiding and supervising capital projects between $10,000-$3,000,000. This includes approving safe and hot work permits, inspecting jobs for safety and conformance to design specifications and project scope. This role facilitates troubleshooting and RCA (Root Cause Analysis) sessions for complex engineering and process issues and failures. The Reliability Specialist aids in the development and implementation of Continuous Improvement strategies. The Reliability Specialist also contributes to HAZOP, FMEA, and maintainability and reliability analysis for new projects. Duties
Technical Responsibilities (50%)
• Supporting (scope, designing and managing) internal engineering and maintenance projects to achieve business goals
• Developing, deploying, and managing the Predictive Maintenance Program for the site
• Designing and planning execution of reliability tests for new equipment or modified machines
• Collaborating with design and engineering teams to review reliability designs of new mechanical systems
• Making recommendations for material selection and improvements
• Designing and developing new KPI dashboards on Microsoft Excel or PowerBI, related to equipment, process and reliability performance for identification of improvement opportunities
• Reviewing and approving technical drawings for mechanical modifications to existing systems
• Using DDS vibrations analysis software to trend asset mechanical health and troubleshooting electro-mechanical issues using vibration analysis
• Reviewing and analysing lubricant sample results using oil analysis and trending techniques
• Driving the RCM (Reliability Centered Maintenance) and PM optimization processes to support effective asset strategies
• Leading the FRACAS (Failure Reporting, Analysis, and Corrective Action Systems) program, and performing targeted reliability improvements based on failure data
• Participating in Management of Change review processes
• Performing LCCA (Life Cyle Costing Analysis) on equipment designs and modifications.
• Developing and maintaining Reliability & Maintainability Engineering standards
• Reviewing critical spares and stock quantities for critical assets
• Developing and leading root cause analysis and FMEA (Failure Modes and Effects Analysis) activities
• Troubleshooting technical failures critical to production, environmental impacts, health and safety
Management Responsibilities (30%)
• Developing and implementing strategic plans for site reliability that aligns with overall organizational goals and objectives
• Responsible for maintaining all condition monitoring and predictive maintenance databases, ensuing all assets are updated regularly and PMs are executed as specified on asset strategy
• Supervising assigned contractor jobs and technical projects ensuring compliance with Ontario Occupational Safety and Health Act
• Reviewing and approving hot-work permit, safe-work permits and job risk assessments for assigned external contractor jobs
• Managing and overseeing the planning and execution of reliability projects, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget
• Mentoring Millwrights and Electricians on condition monitoring best practice and proper predictive maintenance work execution
Communication (20%)
• Engaging in communication during the planning and execution of projects to ensure that the reliability considerations are integrated into design implementation
• Communicating with Operations and Production teams on reliability project milestones and potential impact on equipment
• Developing and communicating emergency response plans for mechanical failures or critical equipment issues
• Communicating the cost-benefit analysis of reliability improvements, helping stakeholders understand the financial impact of reliability initiatives
• Working closely with cross-functional teams, including maintenance, operations, and quality teams
• Providing training and awareness sessions for maintenance teams on mechanical reliability best practices
• Communicating with equipment vendors and suppliers to understand reliability specifications, maintenance requirements, and performance expectations

Requirements
• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial or Chemical Engineering OR completion of a two or three-year program in mechanical, electrical, industrial or chemical technology with reliability experience
• CMRP, MMP or RMIC, Vibration Category II, Thermography, Machinery Lubricant Analyst/Machinery Lubrication Engineer Certificate is an asset
• 3+ years of reliability or maintainability experience in a manufacturing or production environment
• Project Management skills
• Maintenance work management and spares management knowledge
• Asset Hierarchy (ISO 14224) and Criticality Analysis experience
• Knowledge of Ontario Health & Safety Act and Construction regulations
• FMEA, PMO, RCM, RCA, LCCA experience
• Experience developing and maintaining lubrication best practices (MLA, MLE)
• Predictive maintenance experience (Vibration, Thermography, Ultrasound, Oil Analysis, etc.)
• Experience with ANSI, ASME, TSSA Regulations and Code
• Experience engaging and communicating with vendors to find solid and cost-effective solutions
• Experience developing reports and solutions to provide management with information they require for compliance and decision making
• Skills and experience working with software tools such as: MS Office, MS Project, AutoCAD, JD Edwards CMMS
• Problem solving and technical troubleshooting experience
