Ward's Hydraulic Services Ltd located at 945 Memorial Drive, Fort McMurray, AB, T9K 0K4, has full-time and permanent vacancies for 10 Machine Fitters to install mobile fire protection systems on large open pit mine vehicles.
Duties
• Install fire protection systems on open pit mining equipment on various mines/oil sand sites around the Fort McMurray area
• Test the installed fire suppression systems for proper functioning
• Cut hoses and pipes of the required length and install fittings as per the job requirements prior to installation
• Assemble /install hoses/pipes that distribute fire suppression retardant
• Make wiring runs and terminations according to the electrical conductor’s length requirements prior to installation
• Drill and tap holes
• Attach modules with bolts and screws
• Read blueprints and diagrams for mobile fire suppression systems and install them accordingly
• Inspect installed Fire Suppression System parts, and subassemblies at planned intervals as per the check sheets to ensure proper functioning
• Inform the Supervisor of installation challenges or other hurdles
• Document the outcomes of installation and maintenance activities on required check sheets, work reports and LEMs (Labour, Equipment and Material Charges)
• Development of JHA’s (Job Hazard Assessments) and Safe Work Practices relevant to the job.
Education
Qualified as either a Millwright, Pipe fitter, Fitter, Mechanic, Machinist, Auto Electrician, Electrician from any jurisdiction or eligibility to challenge any of these trades in Alberta
Experience
Red Seal Journeyman has no need for post journeyman qualification
Uncertified applicants must be eligible to challenge the Provincial Certificate of qualification
Experience/Abilities
• Strong mechanical aptitude
• Ability to install equipment independently
• 24-volt Electrical troubleshooting is an asset

• These positions require drug and alcohol testing as a condition of employment
• Maintain an acceptable driver’s abstract
• Driver licence with clean driver abstract
• Physically able to climb, carry and lift

Wages, Hours and Benefits
• Salary Range $34.16 to $45.00 per hour, paid bi-weekly
• Average 40 hours per week
• Initially 4 – 5 months during the on-the-job training working 5 days on and 2 days off
• After probation either working 7 days on and 7 days off schedule or 14 days on and 14 days off with alternating day and night shifts

o Travel inconvenience allowance- $0.50 per hour to $4.17 per hour when working on-site at management
o Company Accommodation or housing allowance ranging from $400 per month to $1000 per month at management discretion
