• Have good hand-eye co-ordination skills
Mechanical Repairer Specific Skills
• Inspect and check all mechanical units ensuring there are no faults or malfunctions.
• Diagnose faults or errors and confirm the results with the supervisor at hand to determine whether to fix or replace the unit.
• Perform routine maintenance on trucks, such as checking batteries and changing oil to ensure proper vehicle running.
• Repair or fix any mechanical units or components.
• Report and record all data regarding problems/faults and the work serviced to each mechanical unit.
• Adjust and reline brakes, align wheels, tighten bolts and screws, and reassemble equipment.
• Inspect safety devices on trucks and trailers regularly as guards, lubricating engine machinery and checking battery levels
• Use safe working practices and follow all company safety requirements
• Generate and maintain vehicle and equipment maintenance records and work orders
• Replace parts, valves, bearings and gears as needed and repair vehicle cooling and heating systems.
Truck and Transport and Truck Mechanic Specific Skills
• Adjust, repair or replace parts and components of commercial transport truck systems and truck trailer systems
