Position summary:
Under the supervision of the Pharmacy Manager and the direction of a Pharmacist, the Cleanroom Technician is responsible for aseptically preparing sterile drug admixtures and assisting with production staging and labeling. This person may also be assigned additional duties as required by the reporting Manager.
Duties:
• Maintain inventories of sufficient supplies in staging and cleanroom departments to meet production demands
• Compound intravenous solutions and TPN orders as per Work Instructions
• Prepare the various cleaning and stock solutions following compounding and measuring processes as outlined in Work Instructions
• Pick, inspect and verify all production components against production documents
• Maintain strict adherence to line clearance principles through all stages of production
• Perform validation, calibration, and microbiological monitoring and checking as required by standards and Work Instructions
• Ensure completion of all required Quality Assurance entries on production documentation
• Complete in process and final inspections of product as required by Work Instructions
• Label and package compounded product to ensure proper identification and integrity for shipping and final use
• Assist in the cleaning of equipment, totes, and work surfaces and maintain facility compliance with Calea standards
• Responsible for preparing prescriptions according to technical knowledge and the detailed specifications of the Work Instructions
• Assist pharmacists to maintain inventories of medications and prescription records of pharmaceutical products
• Assess prescriptions for completeness and ensure information is accurate
• Gather and enter client information in databases and prepare medications for clients in collaboration with pharmacists
• May help with scheduling and workflow
Requirements:
• Completion of a two-year pharmacy technician college program or completion of a two-to three-year college program in pharmaceutics and supervised practical training is required
• Completion of the Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada (PEBC) certification exams is required
• Minimum of two or more years experience with sterile compounding
• Regulated Technician licensed with Alberta College of Pharmacy is required
• Minimum two or more years of experience in a community hospital and/or pharmacy is required
• Must have a sound knowledge of pharmacy technology and have the skills and knowledge required for aseptic manipulations.
• Must demonstrate high integrity and good judgment; always ensuring high product quality while working without direct supervision
• Must be flexible and possess a thorough knowledge of all areas of production activities such as: Inventory maintenance, production staging, quality assurance monitoring, product labeling, packaging and cleaning procedures
• Must be able to evaluate priorities, solve problems, react to areas of importance, and work well in a team environment
• Good interpersonal skills and organizational ability are a necessity
• Thorough knowledge of all departments and their functions is required in order to maintain the flow of services provided by Calea Ltd. The Cleanroom Technician is in contact with all other staff members daily
• Lengthy periods of standing are required
• Must be able to withstand 100% of the time in cleanroom area with prolonged use of outstretched arms in front of the body while preparing IV admixtures
• Must be comfortable completing tasks using a repetitive wrist bending motion while withdrawing solutions from the vials and injecting it into the intravenous container. This action is completed 45% of the time spent in the cleanroom
• Some lifting is required of objects up to 15kg

• Ability to handle multiple demands made simultaneously under short time constraints
