At GEMTEC, we offer something different. We're an employee-owned, 400-person multidisciplinary consulting firm—not too big, not too small. We're large enough to compete head-to-head with publicly traded engineering giants, but still small enough to maintain the culture and flexibility of a close-knit team.

Our size and hands-on management style let us move quickly, embrace new opportunities, and empower our people to shape their own careers—without getting lost in corporate bureaucracy.

You're an ideal candidate if you have:

  • Excellent writing and verbal communication skills (English), as well strong organizational abilities, with respect to the capability to manage and prioritize several assignments at one time with a view to delivery of a quality product on time and on budget.
  • Strong knowledge of physical hydrogeology, dewatering, potable groundwater supply, and groundwater and surface water monitoring programs.
  • The ability to work in a dynamic consulting environment that requires flexibility and the willingness to work overtime, as required.
  • Well-developed interpersonal, verbal and written communication and organizational skills.
  • The ability to manage business relationships with clients, regulators and service providers/sub-contractors.

A typical day on the job might look like:

  • Leading and mentoring junior and intermediate staff.
  • Participate in GEMTECs business objectives and contribute to the growth of our civil and environmental engineering teams.
  • Collaborating with, and supporting, other GEMTEC offices in Atlantic Canada and Ontario, as required.
  • Performing project management duties, including client communications, resource management, development and monitoring of project scope, cost estimates/budgets and schedules.
  • Providing oversight and technical support for field investigations including; drilling well installation, groundwater sampling, hydrogeological testing, etc.
  • Preparing reports pertaining to hydrogeological projects.
  • Consulting with municipal, provincial, and federal governments to determine submission requirements for permitting and approvals.
  • Participating in other office and project responsibilities such as data management, analysis and interpretation, report and proposal preparation, report review, public consultation and presentations.
  • Adhering to all company policies.
  • Performing other duties as required.

The good stuff you get:

  • Full time salaried position
  • Fair pay plus extra: competitive salary with year-end profit-sharing bonus
  • Complete health & dental coverage including vision, paramedical services, and Teladoc
  • Retirement planning made easier with a 5% employer match on your contributions
  • Paid time off (vacation and sick days) plus Employee & Family Assistance Program when you need it
  • Office year-end closure (paid time off between Christmas and the New Year)

Your background and what you bring:

  • Bachelor's degree in earth science, environmental science or geological/geotechnical/civil engineering with an emphasis in water resources and hydrogeology. A post-graduate degree is considered an asset.
  • Professional license in NL (i.e., P.Geo. or P.Eng.)
  • Minimum 12 years of relevant professional experience (preferably in consulting).
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of provincial and federal regulatory frameworks for groundwater withdrawal/use, drinking water supply, contaminated sites assessment and management, and environmental assessment is required.
